grant wahl cause of death

By Jon Doe

One of the most well-known soccer writers in the country, Grant Wahl, passed away early on Saturday while covering the Argentina vs. Netherlands World Cup match. He was 48.

Wahl reportedly slumped back in his seat in the press box at Lusail Iconic Stadium during extra time, and the US journalists seated next to him reportedly called for help. The reporters said that emergency personnel responded extremely quickly, and they later learned that Wahl had passed away.

This was Wahl's eighth World Cup to cover. He announced his visit to a hospital in Qatar on his website on Monday.

Wahl said on his podcast on Thursday that he had bronchitis and had returned to the doctor.

Wahl gained notoriety at the World Cup after claiming that he was briefly prevented from attending the US match versus Wales on November 21 because he was sporting a rainbow-colored T-shirt in support of LGBTQIA+ people, whose rights are criminalised in Qatar, a strict Muslim country.

Wahl said that a security commander released him after detaining him for 25 minutes at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan. FIFA allegedly apologised to Wahl.

Wahl, a Princeton alumnus who graduated in 1996, worked for Sports Illustrated from 1996 until 2021. He was best renowned for his coverage of college basketball and soccer. After that, he started his own website. From 2012 until 2019, Wahl also worked for Fox Sports.
