NFL: 05 Takeaways from the Patriots Week 17 Win vs. Dolphins

With their 23-21 victory over the Dolphins on Sunday, New England continued to defy the odds this season and still manages to have a shot at the playoffs.

Despite the victory, they continued to face difficulties. A victory is a victory no matter how ineffective the offense was, how poorly the special teams played, or how poor the coaching was.

NFL: 05 Takeaways from the Patriots Week 17 Win vs. Dolphins

1

Kendrick Bourne appears to still be in hot water.

Nelson Agholor started over Kendrick Bourne for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Bourne caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown last weekend. His usage is not where it needs to be, especially in New England's pass-catcher-heavy offense.

The Patriots made mistake after mistake on special teams in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. It's something that needs to be cleaned up heading into 2023.

2

The Chiefs held the Dolphins star wide receivers to just 107 total receiving yards. An all-time performance from Jonathan Jones and Myles Bryant.

Turning point

3

Mac Jones once again looked like a quarterback that you can build a team around. Rhamondre Stevenson ran hard and has proven to be a monster RB when healthy. And they finally showed Tyquan Thornton's speed off – he led them with 60 yards and a touchdown.

4

He's the first Patriots player to have three defensive touchdowns in one season since 1970. New England now have seven defensive touchdowns this season.

5

The Patriots are one win away from securing a place in the playoffs for the second time in three years.
