The Panthers had an 11-point advantage going into the last 15 minutes of play, but the Buccaneers scored 20 points in the fourth quarter as a result. Tom Brady, the team's quarterback, naturally led the charge, completing 34 of his 45 passes for a season-high 432 yards and three touchdowns.
Wideout Mike Evans, who burst for 207 yards on a total of 10 catches, was the recipient of all three of those touchdowns. These three scores covered distances of 63, 57, and 30 yards.
With less than three minutes remaining and Brady being sacked, the Panthers were able to force a punt. Carolina was then in position at their own 13-yard line following the punt and subsequent 10-yard holding penalty assessed to cornerback T.J. Carrie.
However, the comeback drive was never even initiated because linebacker Anthony Nelson stripped Darnold. Vita Vea, a defensive tackle, recovered the ball at the 6-yard line, setting up Brady's 1-yard touchdown sneak two plays later.
With 1:58 left in the game, the Bucs had a 30-21 lead at that point.
In Week 18, the 6-10 Carolina Panthers will go to the 7-9 New Orleans Saints to finish their season.
