Willis Reed dies at 80
Willis Reed, who led the Knicks to their first championship, died at 80.
Reed died due to poor health, unable to attend Knicks' 50th anniversary celebration.
Reed was an undersized center and emotional leader on the Knicks' two NBA championship teams.
He was the first player to sweep the MVP awards for the regular season, All-Star Game and NBA Finals.
His legacy was secured by his performance on the final night of the season.
Reed had injured a thigh muscle in Game 5 of the series between the Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers, requiring a deciding game at Madison Square Garden. Wilt Chamberlain had 45 points and 27 rebounds in a romp, helping the Lakers win.
Reed's status was unknown to Knicks teammates until Game 7, when he emerged from the tunnel to cheers.
Willis brings the crowd to its feet.
Reed's return and Frazier's 36 points and 19 assists led the Knicks to a 113-99 victory and their first NBA title.
